Creamy Mushroom Steak Sauce

With BBQ season just around the corner, (or if you live in Chatham, Ontario – it’s already started this year in mid-February – what the what??!), I thought that I would share one of my favorite BBQ season recipes with you: Creamy Mushroom Steak Sauce!

Mmm… mushrooms are one of those things that I absolutely hated growing up, but now, I just can’t get enough of them! Especially when it comes to a nice barbequed steak dinner!

My favorite thing to eat with my steak is this creamy mushroom sauce. It goes really great on top of your steak, but I love it so much, I will also just eat it with a spoon!

This is actually my mom’s recipe. I’m not sure where she got it from, but I got it from her a couple of years ago, and I’ve been making it ever since. Not only is it really, really tasty, it’s also very simple to make and only takes about ten minutes.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 ½ cups of diced mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp of margarine or butter
  • 2 tbsp of flour
  • 1 tbsp of white sugar
  • 2 tbsp of parmesan cheese
  • 3/4 cup of 18% table cream
  • Dash of salt
  • Dash of pepper

Instructions:

Step One: Over medium heat, melt butter in a medium-small frying pan and add the mushrooms, salt and pepper. Cover and sauté for about six minutes, or until golden-brown.

Step Two: Turn down to low heat, and add in the flour. Fold it into the mushrooms until it is dissolved.

Step Three: Add in the cream and stir until it is smooth.

Step Four: Add in sugar and parmesan cheese, and stir. If it seems a little thicker than you like, just add a little more cream in there to thin it out!

Step Five: Serve hot and enjoy!
