Here is a list of 5 of those tricky and slightly out of view areas in our home, that we sometimes forget to clean… Add these places to your weekly or monthly cleaning routine, and your home will surely feel a little more fresh and dust free!
If you are anything like me, there may be a few areas or items in your home that you don’t always remember to clean… Not that these areas or items need to be cleaned every single day, but only once every 2 weeks or so, so they are easier to forget than other daily tasks.
Silverware Tray
If you are always staying on top of your dishes and never actually run out of clean forks, knives or spoons, then chances are, that you rarely see the bottom of your Silverware Tray. If you aren’t seeing it often, then you probably aren’t noticing all of the dirt, dust and crumbs that like to somehow gather down there.
Next time you are are in your drawer, lift out all of your spoons at once, and just give it a real good wiping. Do the same for the rest of the cutlery in the drawer, at least once per month, and everything will stay extra clean in there!
Dishwasher
Do you ever notice that your Dishwasher is emulating a not-so-fresh odour? Or maybe your dishes just aren’t coming out as clean as they used to? These are two really good indications that it may be time to give your dishwasher a good deep cleaning.
After time, food particles and water scaling starts to build up inside your dishwasher, and it may stop draining properly. Here is a really great article on How to clean and maintain your dishwasher for a long and healthy life!
Kitchen Cupboards
Kitchen Cupboards are something that I have just recently added to my weekly cleaning routine. I used to do them randomly, just whenever I thought of them, but I find that its much easier to stay on top of them and just give them a quick, but thorough wipe down once a week.
It really is amazing at how dirty your kitchen cabinets can get… Grease builds up on the upper cabinets, some sort of food or sauce always ends up splashed on the cabinets adjacent to the stove, (especially when my husband cooks!), and I always, always, find coffee dripped down the bottom set of cupboards near the coffee maker!
I just add some hot soapy water to the sink, give the cupboards a quick spray with my all-natural, all-purpose cleaner, and wipe, rinse, repeat.
Windowsills
Windowsills are another area that I always used to forget about! To solve this problem and make sure that they are now spic and span, I have incorporated them into my weekly routine, when I wipe down all of my glass coffee tables in the living room, and all of the ones in the kitchen whenever I do my cabinets. Bedrooms and bathrooms get done whenever I do my general dusting in those rooms.
Oven Hood
Oh man… Don’t forget the Oven Hood! If you are short like me, you may not even notice all of the dust and grime that is busy building up on there! If you think about it, it’s really just a grease and dust magnet! You have a fan that runs, and sucks up the grease steam, and also pulls dust particles towards it. The grease sticks to the hood, and then of course, the dust sticks to that grease… Pretty yucky when you think about it!
Whenever I am wiping down the kitchen cupboards, I automatically give the oven hood a good wipe, whether it looks like it needs it or not… It really helps to reduce the build up!
These are just a few areas around the home that I know I used to miss while cleaning. Now that I have finally noticed and identified them, I have implemented them into my weekly/monthly cleaning routine. Stay tuned for another 5 Places That You’re Forgetting To Clean, coming to the blog in the near future!
Happy Cleaning Everyone! 😀
