Have you ever been to a flea market before?! If not, then you totally need to go! Even if you’re not that much into finding pieces of furniture to flip, there’s almost always something for everyone! Car parts, furniture, antiques, collectibles, toys, and usually lots and lots of junk… Sometimes items jump right out at you, and other times you may have to sift through, but if you wonder around enough, you’re sure to find something!

Lately, I have been seeing large strings of wooden beads all over in different home décor settings… At first I wasn’t one hundred percent sure about them, but the more I saw them, the more I fell in love and appreciated them!

Easy DIY Mulch Garden that will Last for Years!

We have now been in our current family home for about 6 or 7 years, and I imagine that this home will be our home forever!

When we first moved in, the front of our house had a few bushes, but other than that, it was pretty sparse looking…

We decided that we wanted to do a large mulch flowerbed to give it a little more curb appeal. I’d never done a mulch garden before, but thought that I would like to give it a try.

Here we are, about 6 years later, and let me tell you, this mulch garden is still going strong! I only have to weed it about once, maybe twice a year, and maybe have to top it up with one or two new bags of mulch a year! (I actually only used half a bag this year!)

The first thing we did was layout the shape of our garden. Since the bushes were already planted before we moved in, we had to kind of work around/work them into our plan. We kind of ended up with a weird wavy shaped garden, but I think that kind of gives it a little more character. Continue reading →

For Earth Day, we decided to plant a tree! Our community came out with a program this year, where households could sign up to receive a free tree to plant. We signed up right away, and were lucky enough to get one!

They had several trees to choose from… Pin Oak, Ironwood, Kentucky Coffeetree or a Sugar Maple. We chose Sugar Maple, but my second choice definitely would have been the Kentucky Coffee tree! Continue reading →

Did you know that asparagus is actually separated into male and female shoots?! The male shoots are the ones that you harvest and eat, while the female shoots are the ones that you let grow and go to seed, in order to expand your patch.

Spring has finally sprung on the farm! Although I’m a real snow-lover, as most of you know, I’ve been waiting and waiting for spring on the farm!

The last time we were down, we ended up having a real weird streak of weather and it turned out being negative twenty-four degrees while we were there! Like, what the heck?!!

This last weekend when we were down, however, ended up being just gorgeous! The Easter bunny even came for a visit!

Does anyone else have a slight obsession with twine, lately?! I love it! You can basically take any object, one that you don’t especially care for, wrap it in twine, and get a whole new look! It’s really like one of the easiest and least expensive décor hacks out there…

Did you know that twine is actually composed of two or more smaller strands that are individually twisted, and then twisted together, to make a larger strand.

I actually just had a flashback to my childhood years, and I think my fascination with twine may have all started when I was young and to keep busy while my parents were working in the fields on the farm, I would twist and braid pieces of bailer-twine… (And that’s how it all started?!) Quick and Easy Pie Crust (made without eggs!)

Every once in a while, when I’m baking dinner, I decide to make something that requires a pie crust… Of course, I don’t always meal plan like I should, so I sometimes end up in a kind of tight spot!
